ACS – Automated Configuration System

ACS (Auto Configuration Servers) is a platform that enables auto-provisioning and remote management of CPE devices.

Basic component of Bulb ACS platform is based on HDM (Home Device Manager), platform developed by Motive Inc who is a leading provider of broadband services management solutions for fixed and mobile broadband services. Beside HDM, parts of Bulb End-to-end solution are various provisioning elements that enable seamless integration with service provider's business processes and OSS/BSS system components.

HDM – Home Device Manager

HDM platform allows service providers to remotely manage CPE, such as residential gateways, IP set-top boxes, and VoIP terminal adapters that comprise a home networking environment. The product offers single as well as large-scale bulk device configuration, troubleshooting, firmware upgrades, event management, user management and reporting, as well as a standardized CPE integration layer that gives providers a choice of CPE supported either by the Broadband Forum's TR-069 or Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP).

BPM - Bulb Provisioning Module

Bulb Provisioning Module is a comprehensive, flexible, and scalable telecommunication service fulfilment solution. It combines intelligent provisioning automation, and data synchronization functions that speed up provisioning process, minimize errors, and reduce the costs of service management.

Provisioning Module acts as the recipient of various protocol messages from external sources (XML, JMS,...), validates the contents, decomposes the order, and manages the execution of the required workflows.

On the picture below there are basic architecture of complete ACS system with highlighted provisioning system component.

Using Bulb Provisioning Module as an enhancement to our core ACS components, service providers can leverage all resources, equipment, and embedded systems and processes, and turn them into real business benefits by:

  • Reducing provisioning time (service activation, service modification, service cancelation,...)
  • Achieve faster, more accurate information flow with other OSS Systems via XML
  • Achieve cost savings on staff, control, management, productivity, and improved processes
  • Deliver centralized administration and control for provisioning process management
  • Enhance provisioning success rates
  • Reduce manual processes for network provisioning, resulting in lower operating expenses
  • Reducing operational expenses

DHCP-B Server

Fully automated CPE device activation patterns (“zero-touch”) generate new demands on DHCP server. In xDSL broadband access networks DHCP becomes key component that enables “phisycal line identification” which is essential for automated service provisioning. In such concept, every DHCP request from CPE device is tagged with DSLAM port identification which allows end-customer recognition and mapping with specific service parameters. To enable those specific functionalities DHCP server should be firmly integrated with other OSS/BSS components.

DHCP-B server will answer requests from any client that complies with DHCP protocol standards and what is also important it makes allowances for non-compliant clients that need to be supported (Vendor specific options. e.g. Option 82). It is production-grade software, suitable for use in high-volume and high-reliability applications. What makes it different from other similar products is high level of integration with service operator OSS/BSS components in the way that all system parameters are located in relational database model which enables dynamic service provisioning applications.

Among others, DHCP-B meets the following requirements:

  • Redudancy (failover)
  • Scalability
  • Easy OSS integration
  • „DHCP Vendor specific options" (Option 82) support
  • etc...
